I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) seeks an experienced Oracle database administrator to support the NOAA National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, NC. NCDC is the world's largest active archive of weather data. NCDC produces numerous climate publications and responds to data requests from all over the world. The Oracle database administrator will support a variety of applications including Climate Data Online, National Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS) e-commerce system, and the metadata information system.
Responsibilities:
• Oracle database administration
• Oracle applications development and technical support, including NESDIS e-commerce system (NES)
• Backup DBA for NES database
• Testing and troubleshooting of new Oracle installations and patches
• Testing and troubleshooting of new Oracle-related software
• Query tuning and advice for NCDC programmers
• Assisting NCDC developers in proper setup, normalizing, indexes, etc. for old and new Oracle tables
• Keeping up with latest technology for Oracle connections through Java
• Maintaining configuration management documentation
• Connections and views across databases
• Oracle Spatial development and testing for GIS applications
• Development of NetCDF applications in Oracle
• Grid technology (data access/OpenDAP support)
Qualifications
Required: Minimum five years experience as Oracle database administrator, including experience with Oracle E-Business Applications Suite; some programming experience, preferable in Java or Perl.
Preferred: Oracle certification is highly desirable.
