The role is based in SI Enterprise Operate. Enterprise Operate is focused on delivering applications management services for the following ERP applications: Oracle, SAP and Peoplesoft. The role is based in the Oracle support team of Enterprise Operate. The range of customers that the Oracle support team services are spread across all sectors.
The role is concerned with the provision of Oracle DBA and Applications DBA support and project work covering all Oracle support customers.
The team works with other specialised groups providing support for Oracle Applications; UNIX, Desktop, networking, call centre etc to provide an integrated service to the customer.
Responsibilities:-
• Proactively monitoring and managing supported databases and E-Business applications.
• Resolution of incidents raised by customer.
• Provision of advice and guidance to customers in support of their Oracle databases and EBusiness applications.
• Development of estimates for database development/requested changes work.
• Provision of development/enhancement services to supported customers.
• Attendance, when necessary, at customer meetings.
• Acting as Lead DBA for specific customers.
• Participation in on-call rota for out of hours support (including weekends and evenings).
• Standing in for the DBA Team Leader during holiday periods.
• Management of transition projects for the take-on of database support services.
• Participation in out of hours project work, especially during transition projects.
Job requirements
Technical Skills:
• Oracle dbms in versions from 7.3.3.4. upward to and including 10.2, including knowledge of:
• performance
• upgrade
• patch
• installation
• recovery
• backup processes
• Knowledge of Oracle 11i eBusiness Suite (from DBA perspective), especially Financials and HR. Activities include:
o installation
o configuration
o maintenance
o administration
o problem solving
Desirable:-
o HP UNIX, Solaris, AIX. Some Windows NT knowledge would be an advantage.
o Experience of Application Server (AS/Fusion AS).
o Veritas products including Netbackup, Quick I/O, Database Editions for Oracle.
o Oracle Enterprise Manager / Grid Control, for monitoring.
Personal Attributes
o The ability to work in a team environment and to work alone.
o Responsible for results and able to carry activities through to the final deliverable without prompting.
o Good customer facing skills.
o Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate within own team, with other parts of the company and with the Customer.
Additional Information:-
o The candidate must be able to work as a team member but must be sufficiently skilled and confident to tackle problems alone, if necessary and if called out of hours.
o The DBA must be willing to travel, sometimes at short notice, mostly within the UK, although most of the work will be carried out from the companies offices.
o The candidate should have skills to work in a "front line" team responding to customer's calls, monitoring customer databases and taking pre-emptive action to avoid problems
o Participating in an on call rota responding to customer calls within contracted levels of service. |
