IAP World Services is the Supplemental Labor Personnel for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Must be a U.S. Citizen and at least 18 years of age. Must be able to acquire and maintain applicable security clearance.
Pay for this position is negotiable.
Nature and Scope of Job
The Metadata Manager will be responsible for the selection and implementation of a commercial metadata repository and toolset for the National Ignition Facility (NIF) program. The candidate will lead efforts to populate the repository from identified data sources and act as the metadata steward including establishment of best practice processes across the NIF enterprise. Furthermore, this candidate will be involved in strategic planning for data archival, growth and data management, and participate in multiple data warehousing and application development initiatives.
Essential Duties
Design and implement a metadata repository and management tools
Perform source data analysis, documentation, and population of the metadata repository
Manage and administer the metadata repository
Establish end user access and reports to metadata
Involvement in capture and documentation of key business rules related to laser shot setup and rules of engagement
Capture, versioning, and documentation of algorithms used in data analysis
Implement and govern best practices relating to enterprise metadata management, standards, dependency/impact analysis, and change control
Lead or assist with strategic efforts relating to:
Projecting data growth and change impact
Data archival and hierarchical storage management
Assessing classified data and risk analysis
Support data analysis for data warehousing and data visualization initiatives
May report to the NIF CIO or Software Engineering Manager

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Proven hands-on experience implementing a successful best-of-breed metadata management solution such as Informatica SuperGlue, IBM/Ascential MetaStage, Metaintegration , MetaMatrix , CA Advantage Repository, ASG Rochade, or DAG MetaCenter
1+ years experience data modeling (relational and dimensional)
Solid knowledge of general data architecture concepts, standards, and best practices for medium-sized, complex environments
Strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to interact with business and scientific end-users and software engineering teams
BS Computer Science degree (or equiv.), or equivalent experience and training.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Involvement in a large data warehousing project
Familiarity with document-oriented (e.g. XML) and relational concepts
Familiarity with use of Rules engines and managing rules as data
Solid full-lifecycle software engineering experience familiar with design documentation, unit testing methodology, software configuration management.
Familiar with leading-edge large-scale data and storage management solutions |
